I recently contributed to the BBC’s documentary on the creation of the state of Israel. The programme follows families whose lives where changed from the events of 1948.
For those of you who are familiar with my writing, you will already know that the Nakba and my family’s current lives in Palestine inspires my work to portray an authentic narrative of Palestine and it’s people.
What I didn’t know was the extent of my family’s experience and what happened to them during the massacre of Deir Yassin. Through the BBC, my researched family history reveals what happened to my grandmother and great grandparents back in 1948. What I discover is how that shapes my future. For UK viewers you can watch the programme here.
For anyone interested in finding about more about my Palestine, you can read my latest novel (a nominee for the Palestine Book Awards), The Land Beneath the Light.
I am currently exploring the impact this filming has had on me by writing a semi-autobiographical novel on the experience. To receive regular updates, please subscribe.
