Shereen Malherbe is a British Palestinian author, writer & English Literature graduate, whose work spans novels, an award-winning children’s book series, and contributions to literary and educational platforms. With a focus on history, identity, and cultural intersections, her writing often explores the complexities of the human experience across the Middle East and diasporic communities. Shereen’s personal connection to this history is highlighted in her appearance in the BBC documentary The Holy Land and Us, offering a deeply personal perspective to her storytelling. It led to her recent novel, Yassini Girls, reviewed in World Literature Today, ‘further cementing her reputation as an important literary voice.’
A recognised figure in contemporary world literature, Shereen’s contributions extend beyond her published works. In 2025, she was named one of only nine international jurors for the 2026 Neustadt International Prize for Literature, often regarded as ‘the American Nobel’ for its commitment to literary excellence. Her nomination, Ibrahim Nasrallah won and is now 2026 Neustadt Laureate.
As World Literature Today‘s executive director, R.C. Davis-Undiano, commented, ‘Neustadt juries are routinely made up of the very best writers in the world.’ This prestigious recognition underscores Shereen’s significant role in shaping global literary voices.
